BASIS Certificate in Crop Protection - Arable
This course aims to equip students with the competence levels required to gain the BASIS Crop Protection Certificate. The course was originally designed for those involved in selling, supplying or advising on the use of pesticides. Recently it has been of great interest to farmers and farm managers looking to further their knowledge and understanding of crop agronomy.
Course Outline
- Recognition and biology of weeds, pests, pathogens and disorders
- Classification and mode of action of pesticides and biological control agents
- Application, transport and storage of pesticides
- Integrated crop protection strategies in the major arable crops
Delivery
The course is organised into 6 blocks of three days, plus two days for the final examination. A pre-course introductory session and two in-course tutorials are delivered online via Microsoft Teams. Delivery is through participatory lectures, group exercises and field visits.
